This is quite nice but in comparison to some £30 bottles I don’t think the difference in quality is in keeping with difference in price. If someone gave you a half of this in a blind tasting I doubt you would pick it out as a more aged expensive whisky.
This whisky creates a sublime atmosphere, a spiritual taste – well rounded and wafts upward beyond the beyond….
An extremely smooth dram as an 18yr old really should be. Even at 40v its got a long finish, and mouthfeel is nice too. Cinnamon, apples and plenty dried fruits and sherry on show. a little vanilla in the end as well. Being a small batch whisky its not always going to be same even with the vatting procedure. No need for water with this either, but dont let forst few sips put you off its qualities. a damn fine whisky and at reasonable price t’boot. struth
Got this as a gift. In Holland this is bottled at 40%, which is a bit of a shame. The quality is good. Warming, fruity (baked apple) and there is a good bitterness and spiciness from the casks. It’s an easy sipper, but maybe to easy. It’s very watery and adding a drop of cold water will only make matters worse. This might not be my favourite style of whisky, and for me It’s not worth the money. Still it’s a a very enjoyable drink, preferably after dinner. Cheers x
This expression consists of Vatted whiskies rather than the much more commonplace Additional Cask Enhancement, which consists of finishing for a short period of time in a European cask. Vatting means that the whisky has spent long periods in Exbourbon and Exsherry casks separately and then brought together and married in a large Vat. Vatting creates deeper, richer, more intense flavours and greater complexity, which is what happens here with this 18 year old. A very very nice expression indeed, but it would be improved by increasing the alcohol strength to say 46V as the additional strength would greatly enhance the flavour. I am sure most people would pay the additional premium for the improvement in flavour profile. Still that notwithstanding, this is a very nice expression.
