Hibiki 21 has been named the World’s Best Blended Whisky countless times at the World Whiskies Awards among many accolades, and for good reason! During that time, demand for Japanese whisky such as this has gone through the roof as a global audience has become aware of the quality that’s long been produced there. Dr. Whisky says it’s “Unbelievably balanced, and dangerously drinkable”. So basically, it’s pretty good stuff!

Hadn’t seen the bottle on any shelf in bars. Then, walked into a sushi bar and there it was. Had to try it! It is unbelievable! Amazing! Perfect balance of notes and smoke, and amazingly smooth! Worth the $120.00 for a dram serving.
Absolutely incredible stuff, a big step up from the already excellent 17yo, it’s hard to describe just how balanced and delicious this whisky is. The nose is sweet, nutty, with vanilla, toffee and some sherry. The mouthfeel is so smooth, and there’s a beautiful mix of fruity sweetness, caramel, oak and just a hint of smoke on the palate, all balanced in perfect proportion. A nice long, oaky finish that stays with you for a good while. I’ve tried other blends including the much touted JW Blue, but honestly there is no contest between it and Hibiki 21, and that’s no exaggeration. Every bit as good as its reputation, and well worth trying if you every find yourself with the opportunity to do so. Unfortunately this is nearly impossible to find in a liquor store these days, and if you do find it it will be at a substantial (>$500 USD) markup, but if you see it at a bar and have $100 to burn, treat yourself to a glass, you won’t be disappointed.
One of the BEST Blended whiskies to have passed my lips, all elements are balanced to perfection, slight sweetness loads of fruit ending with rich sandalwood note, absolutely incredible stuff!!!
I just ordered a bottle at $630. My colleague in Japan said that older malts are becoming scarce, and Suntory is moving from 10 year and 12 year to very young bottlings.
It really bloomed and opened up once some air hit it. Smooth and complex. Toffee almond prune raisin. Rich but balanced. Nice stuff. I like it better than the 17. And I paid twice as much !!! At the above price its a steal but you will never find it at that price again. Buy it anyway. Nice addition to any Japanese whisky collection.
