Glenmorangie Finealta Private Edition

Very, very unusual for Glenmorangie (though not for current whisky trends), they’ve gone and peated it. The Glenmorangie Finealta Private Edition was distilled from Lightly peated barley, to an original recipe dating back to 1903. This was aged in American oak and Oloroso sherry casks. The result is a whisky with sweet vanilla and lime notes, hints of sherry and an interesting whiff of peat smoke.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Floral aromas, citrus zest, subtle smoke, and hints of vanilla and sandalwood.
Palate: Creamy with orange peel, almond, gentle peat smoke, and sweet malt.
Finish: Medium to long with lingering spice, light smoke, and honeyed fruit.

I first tried the Finealta during a Whisky Guild Scotch cruise event in D.C. a few years ago. I was thoroughly impressed with it and even featured it in a private Scotch event I hosted later that year. I am extremely disappointed to hear that it was discontinued, because it is such a quality spirit with an interesting story. I hope Glenmorangie reconsiders producing it again, if not but in small batches.
